Lockwood Capital invests in and operates small to medium-sized businesses that power U.S. national security — with a generational approach to value creation.
Lockwood Capital acquires and operates aerospace and defense businesses over a generational time horizon. Our 30-year hold period allows us to focus on what actually matters: building healthy, durable businesses by investing in capabilities, people, and products that compound value over decades.
That patience unlocks opportunity. We fund product development, new market entries, and capabilities that may take years to pay off. Our founder built growth strategies and investment cases at McKinsey & Company for clients ranging from the largest defense primes to PE-backed defense technology companies — giving us the perspective to identify opportunity in complexity.
People are also at the core of what we do. Our founder spent years as a middle school science teacher and soccer coach before entering the investment world. People development is a core value creation lever, and we build environments where our teams are engaged, challenged, and supported.
We are hands-on operators who draw on deep A&D experience to grow our businesses. Our playbook is built around six value creation levers.
We map markets, identify white space, and invest in product development opportunities that align with where the defense landscape is headed. Our founder's experience building product roadmaps and growth strategies for defense firms of all sizes means we know how to separate signal from noise — and put capital behind the right bets.
We create training programs, build promotion pathways, and address organizational bottlenecks through targeted hiring and internal development. Great businesses run on great teams, and we invest in ours accordingly.
Every business has a backlog of positive-NPV projects that were deferred due to cash flow constraints or long payback periods. We identify those opportunities and fund them. Our 30-year horizon means we can invest in projects that others would pass on.
Our founder spent years at McKinsey & Company advising across the defense landscape — from the largest primes to emerging defense technology companies. We bring that network, pattern recognition, and strategic perspective to every business we operate.
We modernize the tools and systems that allow employees to increase their leverage. That includes upgrading legacy infrastructure, streamlining workflows, and deploying AI tools where they create real productivity gains.
We don't optimize for quarterly results. Our generational hold period allows us to make decisions that compound over decades — investing in capabilities, people, and products that build durable, healthy businesses.
Tech Comm came with a loyal install base, deep domain expertise, and a team with decades of tenure. The foundation was strong — but there was significant opportunity to transform the commercial front end, remove operational bottlenecks, and reshape the product portfolio to align with where the market is headed.
Chester founded Lockwood Capital with a conviction that the best defense businesses are built by patient, hands-on operators — not financial engineers.
Before launching Lockwood, Chester was an engagement manager at McKinsey & Company, where he built growth strategies, product roadmaps, and investment cases for defense clients ranging from the largest primes to venture- and PE-backed defense technology companies. He holds an MBA with a concentration in finance from Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management and a BA in Economics from Emory University, where he played varsity soccer and served as a teaching assistant in cell biology.
Chester's path to investing was unconventional. He grew up in a town of 1,000 people in North Carolina and spent a year living in Puebla, Mexico as a child. After Emory, he joined Teach For America and taught middle school science in Prince George's County, Maryland, where he also coached the soccer team to a county championship. That experience — developing young people, building culture, and finding ways to win with limited resources — remains central to how he operates today.
We take a flexible approach to acquisitions. No opportunity will check every box — we use these criteria as a lens to evaluate fit.
